How to make a square bed?

Origins of the expression

“Making your bed square” is a common expression which means preparing your bed with care and precision, so as to obtain a perfectly straight and symmetrical result, like a square. This involves smoothing out the sheets and blanket or bedspread, so that they are taut and evenly folded. This expression would have its origins in the army, where it would have been introduced for practical reasons, such as saving space and improving the hygiene of soldiers. Today, bed squared is still considered a beneficial habit for improving well-being and productivity. This technique is also practiced in hotels and private residences: the bed linen must be perfectly arranged, without excess thickness or unsightly folds.

Why make a square bed?

There is nothing nicer than an impeccably squared bed. This practice brings both comfort and harmony, contributing significantly to the well-being of the person who occupies it. A meticulously and perfectly arranged bed enhances the aesthetic of the bedroom while providing an orderly and refined appearance. Any professional aspiring to excellence in the quality of their services must respect this requirement. The client, thus welcomed with distinction, will experience increased pleasure when going to bed.

Steps to follow
  1. Ventilate the bedroom Firstly, it is important to ventilate the bedroom for reasons of hygiene before making the bed.
  2. The fitted sheet Place a fitted sheet on the mattress, pull on each corner and ensure that the excess fabric is tucked under the mattress.
  3. The flat sheet Lay the sheet evenly on the bed with the side edge down, the top edge against the top of the mattress, the bottom part should hang over the end of the bed. Then, tuck the bottom end of the sheet under the mattress. Create perfect corners by folding excess fabric on top of the bed and tucking it firmly under the mattress. Finally, tuck the rest of the sheet firmly along the side of the bed to obtain a smooth, wrinkle-free surface. Proceed in the same way on the other side of the bed.
  4. The duvet Add the duvet by smoothing the top of the bed and the corners. Fold the duvet up to the edge of the right sheet for a flawless appearance.
  5. The bolster and pillows Place the bolster first at the headboard and then place the pillows against the bolster.
  6. Decorative cushions For a touch of elegance, it is possible to add decorative cushions which will be placed against the pillows to bring color and cheerfulness.
  7. The bedspread To finish in style, a bedspread can be placed over the entire bed or simply folded and placed at the end of the bed to give a personal and aesthetic touch.
