Children's governess

The Maison Helya children’s governess takes care of the comfort and daily management of a family’s children, from school to extracurricular activities, meal preparation, and sometimes helping with homework. Helya children’s governesses are experienced and selected with a high level of standards for absolute trust.

Fields of excellence of a children's governess

Providing daily care and supervision of children

  • Ensuring the children's physical and emotional well-being and safety
  • Managing journeys to and from school, activities and other appointments
  • Ensure their daily hygiene (bathing, changing, etc.)
  • Ensure that they eat well: prepare meals based on balanced and varied menus
  • Look after the children when they are ill and administer medication in agreement with the parents and the attending doctor
  • Babysitting and evening care

Managing the education and development of the children

  • Suggesting and managing early-learning and educational activities, within or outside their living environment
  • Monitoring school and extra-curricular activities (homework, music, culture, etc.)
  • Coordinate the various contributors (tutors, etc.)
  • Provide parents with information on their children's progress
  • Reinforce the rules of politeness, education and safety
  • Teach or reinforce a foreign language

Maintain the children's living areas

  • Tidy and clean the children's bedrooms, toys, bathrooms and other living areas
  • Washing and ironing their clothes
  • Tidy their dressing room

Other duties

  • Managing the budget for the children's activities
  • Running small errands and making daily purchases
  • Follow up and manage administrative tasks related to the children
  • Prepare the children's luggage and travel arrangements

Children's governess profile

  • At least 3 years' experience in a similar position required
  • NVQ (vocational training certificate) in early childhood / Nursery assistant / Life assistant / Early childhood educator
  • Child first aid training essential
  • Fluency in French, English appreciated (optional)
  • No criminal record
  • Warm, dynamic, gentle and flexible personality, organised and proactive, caring, autonomous, responsible and totally reliable, respect for confidentiality and discretion regarding the family's private information, cooking skills (simple, homely and balanced)
